Oxer Bastegieta - Oxer Wines
Oxer Bastegiesta has been making wine for 20 years now and is firm favourite at Copa Wine.
Oxer divides his time between the family winery based in the Bizkaiko Txakolina appellation and his fairly new and personal project in the famous Rioja region.
Not only are his wines adorned with stunning and unique labels but the contents of the bottles are also incredible.
We first tasted his called "MARKO - Gure Arbasoak" made from indigenous grapes Hondarribi Zuri Zerratia, Hondarribi Zuri and Izkiota Txikia and have been hooked on his wines ever since.
Thank you to Oxer for taking the time to answer our Meet Your Maker questions

How long have you been making wine ?
Tell us a bit about the winery and your location
I have two wineries; one in Kortezubi (Bizkaia) and a second one under construction in Laguardia (Araba), both in the Basque Country.
What varietals do you grow and which is your favourite?
I work with 3 varieties in Bizkaiko Txakoliña ( hondarrabi zuri,Zerratia and Izkiota txikia).
In the south, Rioja Alavesa I work with Tempranillo, grenache, graciano, mazuelo, Viura, grenache blanc, maturana blanca, Malvasia riojana).
I have no favourites, I like them all.
How would you explain your wine making style?
Pure and honest.
I try always to show the landscape in the way i make my wines.
How did you get into wine-making?
My parents have a restaurant and they wanted their own wine made with their own grapes from the property.
We planted a vineyard and I fell in love with this world, with this oasis that makes me feel inside.

Anyone who displays honesty and friendship
Your favourite wine growing region (apart from your own!)
It would have to be my region but I will say Burgundy, because is the personification of elegance.
One bit of advice you would give to aspiring winemakers
